The Spencer County Tourism Commission has announced that $5,000 in grants is available to tourism-related not-for-profit groups again for 2018.

At the end of April, the commission plans to award grants to qualified organizations, events, or tourism-related entities promoting tourism in Spencer County, Indiana. The event or project for which the grant funding is requested must increase visitor attendance from outside the immediate area.

“This is the fourth year the Tourism Commission has offered these grants and we’ve seen a lot of interest from various groups,” says Spencer County Visitors Bureau Executive Director Melissa Brockman. “This local grant opportunity encourages new events to attract visitors and helps enhance tourism promotions and development for Spencer County.”

The Spencer County Visitors Bureau is the office of the Spencer County Tourism Commission. Visitors Bureau staff are available to educate local organizations and tourism-related entities about the grant program. To request an application or for more information, call the Visitors Bureau at (812) 937-4199 or email info@SantaClausInd.org.

Completed applications must be received no later than March 30, 2018.

The Spencer County Tourism Commission was established in 1994 to market the county’s attractions to visitors, using the proceeds collected by the county innkeeper’s tax, which is currently five percent. The mission of the Tourism Commission is to increase overnight visitation to Spencer County’s lodging facilities by advertising and publicizing its natural, historical and man-made attractions as a family destination.

Spencer County is home to nationally known attractions such as Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort, and Lincoln’s Indiana Boyhood Home with national and state parks.
