Ways to Avoid Being Unlucky

Posted on May 13, 2016

Did you know Friday the 13th can happen up to three times in one year? But have no fear, whether it's one or three times a year, we’ve come up with five ways to avoid the unlucky on any Friday the 13th:
  1. Find a four-leaf clover. You may be able to find one while lounging in the grass at the Holiday Drive-in Theatre or as you step back in time strolling through the Lincoln Pioneer Village & Museum.
  2. Pick up a heads up penny. After all, Abraham Lincoln was rumored to have been very superstitious himself.
  3. Climb the Lincoln State Park fire tower. If accidentally passing under a ladder is such bad luck, then surely climbing up a really big one will keep all the bad luck away on this hapless day.
  4. To double your chances of good luck while visiting Lincoln State Park, stop by the Lake Lincoln Beach and toss a little sand over your shoulder. That's the same thing as throwing spilled salt over your shoulder, right?
  5. Ride the Thunderbird Roller Coaster at Holiday World seven times. Well, maybe not seven times in a row, but seven times throughout the day should do the trick, considering seven is the luckiest number of all. Not a fan of roller coasters? You could always just float around the Bahari River seven times at Splashin' Safari.
With these brilliant suggestions, bad luck won't stand a chance this Friday the 13th.
