Giddy Up!

Posted on February 18, 2011

Plowing_at_Lincoln_BoyhoodYesterday was a great day for plowing! Or at least they thought so over at the Living Historical Farm in Lincoln City, Indiana. Park Rangers were out plowing for the first time this year in the kitchen garden on the farm. Horses Jack and Sophie did a great job helping the rangers demonstrate how pioneers used to plow the land. Nowadays, most people use electric tillers or advanced farm machinery to plow farmland. However, back in the 1800's the only thing to use was a wooden plow and some horses. It's amazing to think that's how the Lincoln family plowed that very same land over 150 years ago. The opening day of the Living Historical Farm will be this spring on Sunday, April 10th. This summer, the farm will also be hosting pioneer demonstrations. You and your family can learn how to cook just like the Lincoln family and even see a blacksmith demonstrate how to make and repair tools from the 19th century. For more demonstrations on what life was like for the Lincoln Family back in the 1800's, visit the Living Historical Farm and Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City, Indiana.
