Last-Minute Getaway

Posted on June 2, 2016

Do you remember that time you just up and decided to go on that last-minute, really spontaneous, unforgettable, amazing adventure? Yeah, we don’t either…because it probably hasn’t happened yet. You’ve thought about it, day dreamed about it, and longed for it, but got caught up in the limitations. You know, those little voices in your head that tell you travel is too expensive and takes time that you don’t have right now. But we think everyone needs to take a spur-of-the-moment trip at least once in their life. After all, life is no fun without a little spontaneity. And we’re here to tell you that it doesn’t have to break the bank and it doesn’t have to consume every last bit of the precious paid time off that you have worked so hard to build up. Why not just take a couple days off and find a charming, off-the-beaten-path destination? The Santa Claus, Indiana, area and sites throughout Lincoln’s Indiana Boyhood Home may just be the perfect one-of-kind, magical, rural remedy to your vacation blues.

Here’s why you need to stop thinking and start packing:

  1. Getting out of your comfort zone. Although routine is nice, it’s important to take a break from it. A short, spontaneous getaway is the perfect way to reverse that dragging burned-out feeling. It’s not uncommon for people to get their best ideas and to experience their clearest thoughts while doing something completely random, like hanging upside down going 60 miles per hour on Holiday World's Thunderbird roller coaster.
  2. Experience serendipitous moments. When you take out the planning aspect of a trip, you might just develop a new appreciation for the unique charms hidden in the most unexpected places, like discovering Santa’s Candy Castle and savoring a piece of your favorite childhood candy. And that’s only one of many magical moments you can stumble upon in a town named Santa Claus.
  3. It’s a great conversation starter. Whether you’re striking up a conversation with a stranger while on your trip or telling your co-workers about it when you get back, you’ll be the most intriguing person in the room and who knows, maybe you’ll inspire someone else to do something just as fun and spontaneous. They’ll have to pick their jaws up off of the floor when you tell them about Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari’s unlimited, free soft drinks. I know it sounds crazy, but yes you read that correctly---you can have as many cups of Mountain Dew as your heart desires.
  4. Walk the footsteps of Abraham Lincoln. If walking the same sites that one of America’s greatest presidents walked doesn’t inspire you, then we don’t know what will. At the Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial and Living Historical Farm, you will experience firsthand how Honest Abe and his pioneer family lived when they were here nearly 200 hundred years ago.
  5. Avoid the crowds. If you’re able to take a break from the work week, that’s the best time to visit and make the most out of your spontaneous trip. You’ll avoid the busy weekend crowds and will have better luck securing last-minute lodging during the week.
You’ll only regret the trip you never took, so stop thinking about it and start making memories that you will never, ever forget.
