Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood Home Featured on Statewide Tour

Posted on May 5, 2011

Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood Home will be featured on the 2011 Indiana 500 Tour that will promote the state's early heritage. The tour will include 500 miles of affordable, accessible travel in southern Indiana.

"We're excited to promote the Lincoln history in Indiana, and specific to our area, through this extensive tour in southern Indiana," says Melissa Wilkinson, Executive Director of the Spencer County Visitors Bureau. "The tour highlights an array of history in the Hoosier state and we're proud to be a big part of it!"

The first full week in May serves as National Travel and Tourism Week across the country. As part of this kick-off to the travel season, the Spencer County Visitors Bureau will host a reception with the Perry County Visitors Bureauat Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City. State Representative Sue Ellspermann will welcome guests at 2:00 p.m. CDT on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, and speak briefly on the importance of Lincoln's Indiana legacy. The public is welcome to attend.

Each year, the Association of Indiana Convention and Visitors Bureaus (AICVB) identifies 500 "must-see" miles for visitors during the summer. For 2011, the AICVB selected southern Indiana to highlight the state's diverse history. The route explores everything from indigenous peoples to utopian societies.

"The rich heritage so distinct in the southern region of Indiana is on full display during the 2011 Indiana 500 Tour," says AICVB President James Wallis. "In-state and out-of-state visitors can experience and enjoy a loop of 500 miles filled with interesting destinations and historical places to travel and explore."
