One of Lincoln's Favorites...

Posted on April 14, 2011

On the night of April 14, 1865, Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln attended a production at Washington D.C.'s Ford Theater. During the performance of "Our American Cousin," John Wilkes Booth shot Mr. Lincoln in the back of the head. President Lincoln then died the next morning at 7:22 am.

See a production of the same play President Lincoln attended the night of his assassination at Lincoln Amphitheatre this summer. "Our American Cousin" will take the stage the weekends of August 19 & 27, Friday and Saturday evenings with a Sunday matinee. This three-act farcical comedy will keep you laughing as American, Asa Trenchard, goes to visit distant relatives in England to claim his inheritance. Lincoln actually saw this play multiple times before as it was one of his favorites. I guess even the president needed a good laugh every now and then... Smile

Our_American_Cousin_low_resEnjoy a live show under the stars in this majestic 1,500-seat outdoor venue. As one of the largest roofed amphitheatres in the nation, Lincoln Amphitheatre is located in the very woods Abraham Lincoln walked as a boy. From the time he was 7 until he was 21, Lincoln lived and learned in what is now Lincoln City, Indiana.

Lincoln Amphitheatre will be hosting events all summer long including "The Wizard of Oz" like you've never seen before July 21 through August 7. Watch as Dorothy lives on a modern-day farm and is flung by a twister into a world of Oz that includes monkeys using jet packs and rollerblades!! Just follow the yellow brick road to Lincoln Amphitheatre located inside Lincoln State Park...

The amphitheatre will also be hosting movie nights in the spring, summer, and fall months featuring family films. For a full schedule of events, visit www.LincolnAmpitheatre.com.
