$5,000 in Tourism Promotion Grants Available in Spencer County

Posted on December 9, 2015

The Spencer County Tourism Commission has announced that $5,000 in grants is available to tourism-related not-for-profit groups again in 2016.

In March, the commission plans to award grants to assist qualified organizations, events, or tourism-related entities promoting tourism in Spencer County, Indiana. The event or project for which the grant funding is requested must increase visitor attendance from outside the immediate area.

“This year has been a great one for tourism growth in Spencer County and the grant program is designed to keep that momentum going,” says Spencer County Tourism Commission President Eric Snow. “We saw a strong response to the program earlier this year and look forward to supporting further tourism development and maintaining our position as a top tourist destination in the region.”

The Spencer County Visitors Bureau is the office of the Spencer County Tourism Commission. Visitors Bureau staff are available to educate local organizations and tourism-related entities about the grant program. To request an application or for more information, call the Visitors Bureau at (812) 937-4199.

Completed applications must be received no later than February 15, 2016.

The Spencer County Tourism Commission was established in 1994 to market the county’s attractions to visitors, using the proceeds collected by the county innkeeper’s tax, which is currently five percent. The mission of the Spencer County Tourism Commission is to increase overnight visitation to Spencer County’s lodging facilities by advertising and publicizing its natural, historical and man-made attractions as a family destination.

Spencer County is home to nationally known attractions such as Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari, Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort, and Lincoln’s Indiana Boyhood Home with national and state parks. The county is also home to America’s Christmas Hometown: Santa Claus, Indiana, and its three-weekend Santa Claus Christmas Celebration starting December 4, 2015.
