Tourism Commission Elects Officers for 2012

Posted on January 24, 2012

The Spencer County Tourism Commission elected officers for 2012 at its January meeting.

The following members were elected as officers for the year: President, Eric Snow of Holiday World & Splashin' Safari; Vice-President, Dave Lovell of Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort; Secretary, Mary Jeanne Schumacher of Saint Meinrad Archabbey; and Treasurer, Kendell Thompson of Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.

Other current tourism commission members are Sharon Raven of Comfort Inn & Suites in Rockport, Danielle Dowland of Sun Healthcare, and newly appointed in 2012, Julie Laswell of Christmas Lake Golf Course and Silent Night Golf & Vacation Rentals in Santa Claus.

Members of the tourism commission are appointed by the Spencer County Board of Commissioners, Spencer County Council, and the executive of the largest municipality in the county. According to the recent census, the town of Santa Claus is the largest municipality in Spencer County.

The Spencer County Tourism Commission was established in 1994 to oversee the expenditures of proceeds collected by the county's innkeeper's tax, which is currently set at four percent of gross lodging receipts. The mission of the Spencer County Tourism Commission is to increase overnight visitation to Spencer County's lodging facilities by advertising and publicizing its natural, historical and man-made attractions as a family destination.

Spencer County is home to nationally known attractions such as Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort, and Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood Home with national and state parks. The Visitors Bureau encourages guests to stay overnight and visit county attractions, shops, and restaurants.
