A Peaceful Getaway

If you’re looking for a weekend getaway of a spiritual nature, consider a trip to Saint Meinrad Archabbey. The Benedictine monastery and campus are located just south of Interstate 64 in Spencer County. The campus is especially beautiful in the spring, with color abounding in the monastery rock garden and the landscaped courtyards. You’re also welcome to join the monks at prayer. As they have for nearly 160 years, the monks gather each day to celebrate Mass and pray the Liturgy of the Hours. Another worthwhile option is a visit to the outdoor shrines on or near campus: St. Joseph Shrine, Our Lady Shrine and Monte Cassino Shrine. You can also walk the outdoor Stations of the Cross. The Saint Meinrad Archabbey Gift Shop is open on Saturdays and Sundays, if you prefer to do some indoor browsing as well.
