Christmas 2020 FAQs

Posted on November 5, 2020

Christmas in Santa Claus, Indiana, is always a magical time. And Christmas 2020 is shaping up to be just as special!
But with safety top of visitors’ minds, some of this year’s traditions will look a little different. Here’s what you need to know as you prepare to spend the holidays in America’s Christmas Hometown.

Q. Will there be a Christmas parade?

A. Due to the congested nature of the annual Christmas Parade route, it was determined that a safe, socially distanced parade isn’t possible this year. However, the town will still mark the season in spectacular fashion with a Christmas-themed fireworks display on Saturday, December 12. Other events are being planned for that day, so keep an eye on the events page for further details

Q. Are my other favorite annual events still happening?

A. The popular Santa Claus Land of Lights at Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort kicks off Thanksgiving night. Santa’s TOYS will welcome some very special visitors on November 28 and 29 during the fourth annual Live Reindeer Exhibit. Santa’s Candy Castle will once again host its traditional Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire on Saturdays, November 28 – December 19. Reservations are required, and spots are filling up! Plus, see more events happening during the season.

Q. Can I write a letter to Santa?

A. Yes! The original post office at the Santa Claus Museum & Village will be open select days in December. One family at a time will be allowed inside the post office, and masks are required. Reservations are also available. Visit the event listing for dates, reservation information, and other details. If you’re mailing your letter, it needs to be received by December 19, 2020, to ensure a response!

Q. Where can I get a picture with Santa?

A. Visitors will have multiple opportunities to visit with Santa. Outdoor Visits with Santa will be available in Kringle Place Shopping Center on December 12. Santa will sit in the back of the classic pick-up truck located outside Evergreen Boutique & Christmas Shop to greet guests. You can also visit with Santa at Santa's TOYS on select dates December 10, through December 23, 2020. Don't forget to bring your camera or phone along to capture photos and videos!

Q. What’s this special holiday postmark I’ve heard so much about?

A. Each year, the Santa Claus Post Office selects a design by a local high school art student as the picture postmark for the holiday season. The post office will offer the picture postmark to cancel postage stamps on holiday mail beginning December 1, 2020. See this year’s design and find out how to request the postmark at the post office or by mail.

Q. Where can I buy a postcard or ornament to remember my visit?

A. Postcards, ornaments, and other unique keepsakes are available at the Santa Claus Christmas StoreEvergreen Boutique & Christmas Shop, and Holiday Foods grocery store.

Q. Are there any lodging deals or packages available?
