Christmas 2023 FAQs

Posted on November 20, 2023

Planning a Christmastime visit to the Santa Claus, Indiana, area? You might have a few questions. And fortunately for you, we have answers!

From where to visit Santa to where to buy a postcard, here’s what you need to know before you visit America’s Christmas Hometown for the holidays.

Q. Where can I visit Santa?

A. You can visit the jolly elf himself at the Santa Claus Christmas Store and the Santa Claus Museum & Village. Click the listing pages for each location for dates and times.

Q. Can I write a letter to Santa?

A. Don’t forget to bring your wish list with you because you can write a letter to Santa in the town’s original post office located at the Santa Claus Museum & Village. You can also mail your letter to: Santa Claus, P.O. Box 1, Santa Claus, IN 47579. Letters should be received by December 16, 2023, to ensure a reply by Christmas.

Q. Where’s the best spot for watching the Santa Claus Christmas Parade?

A. There’s really not a bad spot to watch the Santa Claus Christmas Parade. But the best views—and the best opportunity for candy!—are along Patricia Koch Drive. Download our event map to see the parade route.

Q. Where can I see Christmas lights?

A. Christmas lights are one of the most important parts of the holiday season! Drive through the Santa Claus Land of Lights to see the shining story of Rudolph told in LED lights. The gated community of Christmas Lake Village invites guests to experience the Festival of Lights, which features nine miles of festive light displays. And the Christmas in Dale Light Show presents a digital light show set to music for a festive 40+-minute display.

Q. What’s this special holiday picture postmark I keep hearing about?

A. Every year, the Santa Claus Post Office selects a design by a local high school art student as the picture postmark for the holiday season. The postmark is available working days, December 1 through 24. See this year’s design and find out how to request the postmark at the post office or by mail.

Q. Where can I buy a postcard, ornament, or other keepsake to remember my visit?

A. Postcards, ornaments, gifts, and other keepsakes are available at the Santa Claus Christmas Store, Evergreen Boutique & Christmas Shop, Santa Claus Museum & Village, Santa’s Candy Castle, Santa’s TOYS, and Holiday Foods grocery store.

Q. When is the best time to visit during the Christmas season?

A. The Christmas season kicks off with events and activities Thanksgiving weekend. Then the first three weekends of December are absolutely packed with things to do during the Santa Claus Christmas Celebration. Check out our full 2023 Christmas Event Guide.

Q. Is anything open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day?

A. Check out our What’s Open? page to see what’s open now and throughout the holidays. On Christmas Eve, you can do a little last-minute shopping at the Santa Claus Christmas Store, Evergreen Boutique & Christmas Shop, Santa’s TOYS, and Pumpkins & More Farm Market. Nearly everything in town is closed on Christmas Day, so use that time to relax and enjoy a little family time!

Q. So… is it Santa Claus or Santa Clause?

A. As you plan your visit and do online research, don’t forget it’s Santa Claus without the “e” on the end. Searching for “Santa Clause” is pretty common—probably thanks to the popular The Santa Clause movies.
