Dad's Got Swing

Posted on June 15, 2017

If you’re still looking for a way to celebrate the father figures in your life, look no further than Christmas Lake Golf Course. To get the scoop, we caught up with Josh Winkler. He is one of the owners of the course in Santa Claus, Indiana . And he likes to play golf, too. We asked Josh why a day of golfing would be an ideal Father’s Day gift. He told us, “Fathers need a break and time to relax and have fun. Golf is perfect for that.” We agree. And if your dad isn’t already an avid golfer, Josh suggests booking a lesson with Tom Nelson, PGA professional. He went on to say that the game tends to be a lot more fun if you learn the basics first.

Now here are the nitty gritty details on the golf course.

Maybe he shouldn’t play favorites but Josh has a favorite hole on the course. It’s number 11. He says it’s a short par-4, downhill, dogleg left. And it’s a beautiful hole that sets up well for his draw. We asked about the most challenging hole and Josh noted that it’s number 3 for him. It’s a long par-3. He told us it should be easier for him considering he grew up just a few hundred yards from the tee box though! Did you know kids who are 12 years and younger can play for free with a paying adult? Josh noted both his daughters (Shelby and Macy) enjoy the game, and, of course, driving the golf cart. We asked Josh for some funny stories to share and he told us the best way to get those (and the tall tales) is to visit the 19th Hole Bar and Grill after playing a round. He told us his uncle was interviewed on television and told the reporter how many holes were in the front nine, and how many were in the back nine without thinking about the obvious… duh, it’s nine! Whether you like putting around, utilizing the driving range, or playing the full course, Christmas Lake Golf Course is a great spot to celebrate Father’s Day or simply enjoy the outdoors.
