Fallin' for Fall

Posted on October 1, 2014

Bright, colorful leaves replacing the luscious green along trails and inside woods, a light breeze turning the sunset into the perfect time to enjoy a bonfire, and décor filled with pumpkins, hay bales, and apple-cider-scented aromas… ‘Tis the season, the autumn season that is!

Here at the Visitors Bureau, we are fallin' for fall and all it brings!

As we move into October, it seemed fitting to check in with our industry partners throughout the county to see what they love about fall. Read about some favorite things below; you can tell everyone loves what they do this time of the year! “My favorite part of fall is walking the trails at Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial.  The scenery is complete with corn and cushaw squash being harvested, animals grazing nearby and the leaves changing colors.” – Kristi Brown, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial  I love fall in Spencer County because I get to enjoy Holiday World’s Happy Halloween Weekends.  I love all the fall decorations, attractions, and shows.” – Amanda Ellsworth, Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari “The air is crisp, the leaves are beautiful, and there are so many seasonal activities to choose from. Of course, one of my favorites is The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” at the Santa Claus Museum & Village. The cozy, historic church and flickering candlelight make the perfect setting for a classic spooky tale.” – Emily Thompson, Santa Claus Museum & Village I love fall.  It's persimmon season!  When I was young, after school started back and when the weather started to change, I would ask daily if it was time to pick persimmons.  I loved this special family time, walking in the woods and the hunt for persimmon trees. My family and I would spend all day out in the woods driving from one location to the other.  Through the years we would find special trees that were usually loaded with persimmons and we would fill our buckets on this one outing. My mom would then make persimmon pudding and cookies throughout the fall and winter. – Paula Alexander, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial “I love getting dressed up in the fall! I wear my lovely orange tutu all summer long, and for Happy Halloween Weekends, I become a princess!” – Kitty Claws, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari fallin for fall This post was updated for October 2017.
