Flip a Coin

With the first of June declared as “Flip a Coin Day,” we dug up some facts about our favorite piece of copper.
The penny, which proudly boasts Abe Lincoln, was issued in 1909 to commemorate Lincoln’s 100
th birthday.
Other noteworthy tidbits:
- The photograph was taken by Anthony Berger in 1864.
- President Theodore Roosevelt approved the image that was used on the coin.
- Abe was picked for the penny because he represented the common man.
- The penny was the first American coin to feature a president’s image.
