Have a Safe Trip!

Posted on July 22, 2020

“Have a safe trip!”
You’ve probably said and heard this phrase many times in your life. But this travel season, the sentiment has taken on new meaning.
As you plan your next trip, safety is, of course, a top concern. That doesn’t mean you need to let fear rule your vacation. With just a little forethought and pre-planning, you can treat your family to a safe, fun vacation they’ll never forget!

Plan Ahead

When you take a vacation, you research where to staywhere to eat, and what to do, right? So, it only makes sense to spend just a few extra minutes researching what safety measures, requirements, and restrictions are currently in place at your destination.
Does the attraction you want to visit require guests to wear masks? Are there capacity restrictions at dine-in restaurants? Are all businesses open their regular hours of operation?
You can find contact information and links to the websites and social media accounts for all this area’s businesses on our website.
Our What’s Open page can also provide some answers ahead of your visit. Or send us a message or call (888) 444-9252 with questions.
Effective Monday, July 27, 2020, Indiana requires that masks be worn by anyone eight years of age or older in public indoor spaces and in other environments where social distancing is not possible. Masks are also strongly recommended for those ages 2 - 7. Please note that individual businesses may have additional safety requirements and rules.

Less Crowds, More Fun

If you’re planning a visit that’s big on fun and on social distancing… you’ve come to the right place!
Vacation rentals are a perfect choice for families who want to skip the crowds and have a “home away from home” experience. This area’s vacation rentals offer just what safety-minded travelers are looking for. This list can help you find a vacation rental with fun extras (like game rooms and hot tubs), one located in a private country setting, or one with contactless check-in
Camping is another great option. Do you like a more rustic camping trip? Set up camp at Lincoln State Park or Oakridge Campground. Is “glamping” more your style? The cabins, cottages, and rental RVS at Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort are ready to welcome you. (Please note: Lake Rudolph requires that masks be worn in all indoor facilities and outside when physical distancing isn’t possible.)
This area’s wide-open spaces were made for socially distancing under the sun. From hiking to horseback riding, you’ll find plenty of ways to explore the greatest outdoors!
And if you want to socially distance under the stars, you won’t find a better spot than the Holiday Drive-In Movie Theater. Enjoy big screen family entertainment from the safety of your own car!

Hoosier Hospitality Promise

What’s the Hoosier Hospitality Promise? According to the Promise website, “it’s like a pinkie swear, coated in hand sanitizer”!
More specifically, it’s an Indiana tourism initiative that businesses and individuals can participate in to show commitment to the health and safety of workers and guests. It includes a pledge to enhanced sanitation measures, wearing masks, social distancing, and other efforts.
See area businesses that have made the promise so far. Then make your own promise! After completing the form, you’ll receive your official “Hoosier Hospitality Promise Pass,” which can earn you exclusive discounts at participating businesses.

Safe and Happy Travels

This is an unusual time for travelers and for the tourism businesses that welcome them year after year. But a happy travel season is still possible if we all extend a little kindness and patience and do our individual parts to ensure the safety and health of one another!
