Santa Claus, Indiana: By the Numbers

If you’ve never had the good fortune to visit our town, then maybe you don’t know what a special place it is. So, here’s a quick rundown of some of the historical, magical, and one-of-a-kind things that make Santa Claus, Indiana, a favorite destination for so many. 

Let’s Count the Ways … 

1856 – The year the Santa Claus Post Office was established.  22 – Height, in feet, of the historical Santa Claus Statue, built in 1935.  20+ – Number of Santa statues located throughout the town.  1914 – The year James Martin, Santa Claus Postmaster, started answering the letters many children were sending to Santa Claus (Santa Claus, Indiana, that is!).  31,000+ – The record number of letters answered in 2019 by Santa’s Elves, the group of dedicated volunteers who answer letters to Santa sent from all over the world.  1983 – The year the Santa Claus Post Office first offered the special holiday postmark, designed each year by a local high school student and available only during December.  5Roller coasters at Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari.  8,000 – Approximate number of ornaments available at the Santa Claus Christmas Store (many can be personalized so they’re perfect souvenirs!).  2,800+ Toys, including STEM products, available at Santa’s TOYS.  18Holes at Christmas Lake Golf Course.  2Shops in one you’ll find at Evergreen Boutique & Christmas Shop: One offers trendy women’s fashions and gifts; the other, a year-round selection of Christmas décor.  35 – Flavors of cocoa available at Santa’s Candy Castle.  13Horses at Santa’s Stables (plus, one charming pony and some very friendly dogs!).  3 – Weekends in December dedicated to the town-wide Santa Claus Christmas Celebration.
