Spencer County Included in Movie to Premiere at National Conference

Posted on September 17, 2012

Spencer County historians and storytellers will be featured in an original movie premiering at "Preserving the Historic Road," a national conference in Indianapolis this weekend.

As part of the 2012 conference, "The Why in the Road" will premiere at the IMAX Theater at the Indiana State Museum, west of downtown Indianapolis, on Friday, September 21, at 8:00 pm EDT.

A crew visited Spencer County earlier this year to capture the area's historic roads and stories on film. Those interviewed include author Bill Bartelt, history enthusiast James Hevron, Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial Superintendent Kendell Thompson, Lincoln State Park Naturalist Michael Crews, teacher and craftsman Steve Haaf, Santa Claus Museum & Village volunteer Barbie Blair, Holiday World & Splashin' Safari President Dan Koch, and Spencer County Councilman Jack Kroeger.

"I learned so much about Spencer County that I wasn't aware of and all of the people were so warm and willing to tell us their stories," says Candy Yurcak, the producer and director of "The Why in the Road." "The entire journey was amazing; I fell in love with Indiana all over again."

To see a preview of the movie, visit http://vimeo.com/48992357. Tickets can be purchased online at the IMAX Theater's website: https://secure.in.gov/webstore/shop/ViewItems.aspx?CG=2&C=5.

The "Preserving the Historic Road" conference is held biennially in cities across the country. The conference builds relationships among the many disciplines that determine policy and maintain historic roads.

Spencer County is home to nationally known attractions such as Holiday World & Splashin' Safari, Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort, and Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood Home with national and state parks. The Visitors Bureau encourages guests to stay overnight and visit the many attractions, shops, and restaurants.
