Tee Time Safety Tips

Posted on March 26, 2020

“Can I still play golf?”  Avid golfers across the country are asking that question as the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic expands and keeps millions at home. Fortunately, the answer in some areas is that yes, you can still golf.  In Indiana, the governor has issued a stay-at-home order that allows the state’s golf courses to remain open so long as they’re following proper health and safety procedures.  This area is fortunate to have two wonderful golf courses. Christmas Lake Golf Course in Santa Claus is a par 72 championship course set among rolling hills, valleys, and sparkling lakes. The Rustic Golf Course in Rockport offers a 9-hole course surrounded by two lakes and beautiful wooded scenery.  So, if you’re experiencing a little cabin fever and want to hit the links, just make sure you do so smartly and safely.

Hit the Links Safely

To get outside and enjoy your favorite hobby safely, you’ll just need to make a few very minor adjustments.  Consider going solo. Sure, golf is more fun with friends and competition. But right now, why not make plans to play a round on your own and try to beat your personal best. (If you do golf with a group, remember: Keep it small, and keep your distance!)  Keep your hands to yourself. Don’t share clubs. Use your foot instead of the provided rake to smooth the sand. And absolutely no post-round handshakes … no matter how well you played!  Walk, don’t ride. Part of the fun of golfing is enjoying the great outdoors and getting some exercise. So, skip the communal golf carts and walk the course instead!  Practice good hygiene. Golf bags have plenty of pockets … make sure one of them includes a bottle of hand sanitizer and use it frequently! And when your round is over, head straight to the nearest sink and scrub for at least 20 seconds.

Post-Round Reward

If your usual post-round routine is to spend some time at the clubhouse or onsite restaurant … well, sorry. Those are closed to dine-in guests. But The Rustic’s restaurant and The 19th Hole at Christmas Lake Golf Course are both offering carryout, so you can still reward yourself with a delicious meal to be enjoyed back at home!  Other area restaurants are offering carry out, curbside pick-up, and delivery, too.
