What To Do In January

Posted on January 9, 2015

What is there to do in January? Plenty of activities that span a variety of interests! There are trails at nearby parks perfect for a brisk hike or leisurely walk. A round of golf at Christmas Lake Golf Course also provides fun for those who seek an outdoor adventure. Monkey Hollow and Pepper’s Ridge wineries offer an escape from the cold for wine lovers. Both wineries often have live music on the weekends, too. The area is deeply rooted in history, so exploring the Visitor Center inside Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial is a must. Spend a quiet afternoon browsing exhibits and watching a film based on Abe’s 14 years in Indiana. Right across the street is Lincoln State Park where you can view the Bicentennial Plaza and the interactive nature center. Arrange a tour of the Colonel Jones Home to learn more about Abe’s time in Spencer County. Take a self-guided tour of the striking Saint Meinrad Archabbey and immerse yourself in the serene surroundings. Discover a gift shop full of inspirational and unique finds (try the cookies from the bakery!) as well. Don’t forget about meals, shopping, and places to stay when planning your trip. View a complete list of business hours. Be prepared: January can see a lot of temperature fluctuation with highs anywhere from 35 to 55 Degrees and lows from 20 to 40 Degrees. Pack your coat, hat, and gloves for wind chill factors that make the 20s feel like the 10s.
